Our Young Geologists Rock the Classroom!

The Grade 5 students  stepped into the shoes of young geologists as they explored the fascinating world of Igneous Rocks. As part of their research project, students investigated and presented two types of igneous rocks such as  intrusive and extrusive igneous rocks, sharing their discoveries with great enthusiasm.

Their research included details about each rock’s physical appearance, interesting facts, and real-life uses. With beautifully designed booklets and creative foldables in hand, students confidently presented their work before their classmates. Some even brought real igneous rock samples, such as pumice, which can easily be found in homes adding a real-world touch to their presentations.

The classroom buzzed with excitement as rocks like granite, basalt, pumice, and obsidian came to life through student presentations. Marks were awarded for both the quality of research and presentation skills. This project not only nurtured their curiosity about Earth’s natural wonders but also helped them build strong communication and research skills. Truly, our young geologists proved that learning can be both educational and rock-solid fun!

As a continuation of the rocks unit, students will also create fossil models and learn about different types of fossils, including mold fossils and cast fossils.
